2016

Me and João Filipe Santos were invited by Casa da Cultura de Loulé to create a photo exhibition using their darkroom.
We came up with the idea of making also a installation with a projection in Virtual Reality glasses. In collaboration with the artist Roberto Gomes.

CONCEPT
The whole idea of mixing analog photography with Virtual Reality, and also photographing antique and modern dolls, meant to show that no medium of expression is obsolete, less relevant or replaceable. Just phases of a cycle.

The images below are a selection of the exhibited photographs.

All of the pictures were photographed in a light box (box made of cardboard and tracing paper, illuminated by LEDS). Except the series "Trying to belong" (Bert and Ernie), which was photographed outdoors. The developing was fully processed in the darkroom of “Casa da Cultura de Loulé”, and was exposed the original prints in silver chloride paper (the presented examples are its scans).

The dolls photographed are a selection of some children toys of the authors and her nephew, plus some decoration dolls from their houses.

The narratives presented in each series or individual photo, are illustrations of personal situations and opinions, or simply the result of a time playing with dolls.

Installation + projection in Virtual Reality glasses:

Recreation of the darkroom where the artworks were conceived.

Installation with two dimensions:
Arrangement of photo developing equipment - enlarger, chemicals, tanks, spirals, coils, red light and several items - accompanied by suggestive elements (soundtrack, chemical scents);

Visualisation of the authors during the developing process, in virtual reality.
